Filming 14.12.09

Last night we filmed at my house showing different point of view shots getting ready for a night out. We don't have enough footage so over the holidays we are going to film more of us getting ready etc to establish characters better, however we have got many good shots and believe the end product should be very successful! We are currently uploading the footage onto final cut express in order to be able to edit it.

The band logo and it's creation

We wanted to base our logo on the connotations of patriotism which the band often highlight. Furthermore, the idea of the logo being 'distressed' and 'rough and ready' is what the band aim to achieve through their image. The idea of the flag being torn or falling apart reflects what the band writes songs about highlighting the problems with politics and Britain. I used different effects in Photoshop such as brightness/contrast and filter effects such as chrome, film grain and sprayed strokes to achieve our desired look for our logo and a faded/washed out font to create the image of the flag being distressed.

The first image before effects were added:

I then added various effects:

This was was the chrome effect added in Photoshop. Then I added various fonts.

Yet more adaptions:

I used the filter effect water-colour paper and then used a modern font (above)

Here i used the effect Sprayed strokes to achieve a distressed look and then added a block font.

Here is the final logo for our band the Torrents were I used the effect Sprayed strokes and the font Stone wash 6:

Research for ancillary task

Magazine Cover:

We have found some examples of the type of cover we want to use for our task. We believe these covers reflect the ideologies of our genre, e.g being young and rebellious:

Indie bands are all about being individual and different, we would like to have an album cover which does not have a picture of the band, but something completely irrelevant. Our idea is to take a picture of a broken and rusted street sign, saying 'Torrents'. This picture will give off connotations of the working class, rebellious behaviour and most of all, reflects Britain. These are the ideologies that our band offer.

We have found some album covers which are different and unique:

Location shots

A possible location for our video is 'Key Street' in Clitheroe:

Another possible location is Rio's in Whalley:

Planning - Amys Ideas for outfit

As Amy is playing the role of a 'good girl' we believe costume contributes greatly towards establishing typical stereotypes. Here is an image of what she is planning to wear:

We believe that the dress and maybe a blazer will represent a 'good girl' more clearly than a dress as it gives off connotations of education, wealth and authority.

Planning - Shooting Schedule

MONDAY 14 DECEMBER - shooting at Beckie's house (beginning & end).

We are no longer filming at the party on the 12th of December as we no longer have permission to do so, therefore we are going back to our original idea which was to film in a club. We have a choice of two clubs, which are 'Rios' and 'Keystreet' in Clitheroe. We are currently in the process of sorting this out.

Animatics of our storyboard

Here is an Animatic of our Storyboard for our Indie Video.

These are brief images of our music video, the order may change, and because the party is no longer taking place it will be at a club instead. However, the main plot is made clear throughout this animatic and the pictures represent a clear beginning and a clear end to the music video.

Music Choice

Here is the music which we have chosen to base our music video around. It is young and energetic and capture our target audience completely.

planning

We looked on the website www.uktribes.com and researched the indie kids group as we believe this is out target audience. We believe the video below defines the definition of the indie stereotype.

We also found some research on the same website on what kind of clothes are associated with the indie genre.

Racked out
What’s in the Indie Kid dressing up box?
Topshop Baxter super skinny jeans

Black short bomber jacket

Double breasted woolly coat (it must be short; indie coats are no longer long)

Fitted, preppy V-neck jumpers

Or a V-neck jumper with black tie over it

Lacoste

White shoes with black skinny jeans

Two-tone shoes in the style of Bugsy Malone

Chelsea boots (black or brown only)

Mashed-up Converse, black pumps or for men, pointed black shoes

A skinny T-shirt featuring an old band like Led Zep or The Sex Pistols

Badges featuring underground or old bands: Cazells,
Blur, Velvet Underground, Nirvana.

Black Trilby hat

Braces (in black and white)

Slightly scraggy plastic bag from a record store

We even researched what sort of music the indie genre had on their ipod, by looking on the website.

Target Audience Research

We recently visited the website "UKTribes.co.uk" and researched the Indie genre. Here is some vital information that represents our band image:

Cinema tickets “We spend many, and I mean many, hours in dingy cinemas watching art-house films.”
Pete Doherty flyer “Pete Doherty’s name on something has the same effect on indie kids as a shiny thing does on a magpie”
Wristbands “Indie ephemera – even paper wristbands can be preserved.”
Fireplace “Run out of wall space? Then spread out to doors, windows and fireplaces.”
Cartoon “Too many ticket stubs can make your room look like a newsagent’s window. Break up the look with a few extra titbits.”

Planning

At the beginning of the planning sessions, we decided to locate our music video mainly at a club in clitheroe. However, we are now going to film it at a house party instead as we believe this would create a more real image of young adults when a party takes place and the antics that happen also, instead of using extras to act out typical scenes. However, we are still going to use the other original ideas, such as the two different point of views and split screen, and also the same location (my house) for the beginning and the end.

The party will appeal to our target audience, being young indie kids, as it is filmed at a party which many indies enjoy attending therefore it is realistic, and it also involves characters who are youths. The video involves alcohol, which again appeals to the indie audience as youths stereotypically enjoy drinking and partying.

Our filming schedule so far is as follows:
Monday 7th December - 4pm at my house. During this session we are going to film the beginning of the video, and if we have time the ending as well.
Saturday 12th December - the house party. Here we will film the middle part of the video and get many different shots to use.

Any other dates are yet to be confirmed.
